A Missouri Christmas

Here in Missouri we celebrate like much of the US. We put up our tree a few weeks ahead of time so we can enjoy the pretty lites and colors. The children, although grown-up now still draw names and love to get together. The Christmas Story is read on Christmas Eve and the little ones chime in to help with the story as Grandpa reads. We want them to remember why we celebrate Christmas. Before bed they are allowed to open one gift which will help them to sleep. They retire to bed all starry eyed as they wait for Santa. In the morning they get up and sit by the tree until everyone is up and then we open our gifts one at a time to see and enjoy what everyone has received. As the children play, the grown-ups fix a light breakfast as the dinner is being prepared. We visit and relax until about 2 o’clock and then eat our wonderful smelling dinner. Everyone has had a good time and then we say our goodbyes. One tradition that we have carried on is each child gets to choose an ornament and when they get married those oranments go with them so their children can enjoy them also.
