Albanian Christmas

Albanian Christmas

I am Albanian, and since I know how the holiday is celebrated, I thought I’d share it with you.

Albanians respect family very much, but also good taste, so wherever they will decide to spend that day, their entire family will be with them.

Although New Year’s Eve is the most celebrated day, Christmas is very well celebrated, also. As far as presents go, they are given on New Year’s Eve. Cooking — there’s the turkey, stuffing, and different side dishes, but desert takes a special place. It’s called “bakllava”, known to America as “baklavash.” It’s like a pie, but far more complicated; it’s delicious. Albanians also have their big Christmas tree, in the center of the capital, Tirana, which is like a small version of the tree in New York City.

Hope you enjoyed it. For further information, feel free to contact me at [email protected]
