California Family Christmas
Christmas is my favorite time of year. It seems like I get into a holiday mood earlier and earlier. This year it struck on November 1st. My daughters and I started making Christmas ornaments this past weekend. I’m restraining myself from playing Christmas music until after Thanksgiving.
We always go to church on Christmas Eve and have little snacks for the evening. We usually watch the movie “Miracle on 34th Street” and read the kids “The Night Before Christmas” before they’re tucked into their beds to dream about Santa Claus. They always wake us up very early in the morning and we have a special breakfast and open presents.
All the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins arrive around 2:00pm and we have a great Christmas dinner with turkey, stuffing, cornmeal crescent rolls, mashed potatoes and gravy and some kind of sweet potato cassarole. For dessert I usually make my famous Chocolate Truffle Cheesecake.
I also love all the decorating we do. This year our whole neighborhood is decorating with hundreds of lights and figures in their yards. We also set out our nativity sets and we try to remind the children that this season is about Jesus’ birth and we always try to help and remember those less fortunate.
