Childhood Memories of Christmas in Haiti

Childhood Memories of Christmas in Haiti
Dorina

I remember the day starting with carolers on the city street. On Dec. 22, we would go to the market and get fresh cut trees brought from the mountains and decorate them with bright ornaments. On Dec. 23, we would place our shoes, filled with straw, on the porch. In the morning, our Christmas Day, there would be gifts for us. We would eat all day and sing. The joyous atmosphere would be carried throughout the week. On New Years, we would have an all-night service to bring in the new year. These were the best years of my life.
