I WAS BORN IN ONTARIO AND LIVED THERE FOR EIGHT YEARS OF MY LIFE.CHRISTMAS WAS A VERY SPECIAL TIME FOR EVERYBODY. FAMILIES WOULD GATHER ON CHRISTMAS EVE AND FEAST UPON MANY BRILLIANT KINDS OF EXOTIC FOODS. AFTER DINNER EVERYONE WOULD GRAB A PARTNER AND CRACK A CHRISTMAS CRACKER. CHRISTMAS CRACKERS ARE STICK-LIKE OBJECTS WITH A LITTLE SURPRISE IN THE MIDDLE. EACH PERSON PULLS ON ONE END OF IT AND WHOEVER PULLS OFF MOST OF THE CRACKER GETS THE SURPRISE WHICH WIIL END UP ON THEIR SIDE OF THE CRACKER. THE SURPRISE IS USUALLY SOMETHING SIMPLE LIKE A MAGNIFYING GLASS OR A PIRATES’ EYE PATCH. SOMETIMES A PAPER HAT WILL BE INCLUDED INSIDE ALSO, BUT NO MATTER WHAT YOU GET IT IS STILL A GREAT MEMORY AND BRINGS ALIVE THE GREAT FESTIVITY OF THE DINING AREA.

IF YOU GO TO THE SHOPS AROUND CHRISTMAS TIME YOU WILL SEE THAT ALMOST EVERYTHING SOLD HAS TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS. AT THE MALL, THERE IS ALWAYS A MAN DRESSED UP AS SANTA CLAUS, AWAITING A LONG LINE OF CHILDREN WHO WAIT TO HAVE THEIR PICTURE TAKEN AND TELL SANTA WHAT THEY WANT FOR CHRISTMAS. EVERYONE IS HAPPY AND HAS SPARKS OF DELIGHT ROCKETING OUT OF THEIR FACES. THE WHOLE MALL IS ECHOING WITH FRIENDLY WORDS AND CHRISTMAS CAROLS. IT IS WONDERFUL.

AND THEN ON CHRSTMAS MORNING THE CHILDREN FLY DOWN THE STAIRS AND TO THE CHRISTMAS TREE. THEY ALL CHECK TO SEE THAT SANTA HAS EATEN THE COOKIES AND DRANK THE MILK THAT THEY HAVE LEFT FOR HIM AND TURN AROUND TO SEE THEIR STOCKINGS FILLED AND PRESENTS GLEAMING ALL AROUND THE TREE. THEY SMILE AND TEAR APART ALL THE SPARKLING WRAPPING PAPER AND LAUGH WITH JOY AS THEY SEE THAT THEY HAVE GOT WHAT THEY ASKED FOR. THEN THEY SPEND THE REST OF THE DAY LAUGHING AND PLAYING AND HAVING FUN.

I NOW LIVE IN MICHIGAN, USA AND I BELIEVE THAT IT IS NOT AS FESTIVE AS IN CANADA. CHRISTMAS IN CANADA IS VERY, VERY SPECIAL.
