“Why give a gift when you can create a memory? This is a question that many are asking as the Christmas season approaches. When asked to share one of her family’s traditions, Cheryl Lynn Pope of Second Time Media in Detroit Michigan, described exactly this when she shared,
We actually have created 2 Christmas traditions. 8 years ago when we got married we decided that we would have our own food traditions. Tired of turkey and dressing, we decided to have Chinese food every Christmas. Last year, our family decided in lieu of toys and gifts that would break within the week or gifts that we’d return, we would use Christmas as a way to create memories. So every Christmas we will take a vacation. Last year, we went to a water park in Dundee, MI and this year we’re going to Frankenmuth.
One of the things that I like about Cheryl Lynn’s tradition is that it involves a shared experience. And as our readers know by now, at Christmas.com, we believe that Christmas is for Sharing.
So maybe this year, you will do something similar. Pack up the kids, take a trip, go to a museum or water park, or just simply share your time with Family and Friends. And when you do, share your pictures and create a lasting memory.
Editor’s Note: Christmas is about Sharing. To this end, we’ve asked for readers to contribute their own Christmas traditions and family stories. By sharing traditions, everyone gets a better understanding about how Christmas is celebrated around the world.
