Haitian-style Christmas in America

Haitian-style Christmas in America
renalda

I have celebrated Christmas the Haitian way since I was young. My parents were from Haiti and brought me up this way.

We are Christian, but we have diffrent traditions. We celebrate Christmas on the 24th not the 25th. We go to Mass on the night of the 24th. We stay up all night celebrating, eating food, making merry, but still remembering what we are celebrating for.

We exchange gifts after Mass, and then join together at the table to eat. We pray a prayer of thanks then eat. We usually spend the whole day to prepare dinner, so dinner is a big feast.

In Haiti they might do it a little differently, for I have only celebrated Christmas the Hatian way in America.
