Kasha (Buckwheat Groats)

1 1/4 Cups of kasha 1/2 Teaspoon of salt 1/4 Teaspoon of pepper 3 Tablespoons of butter 1/3 Cup of chopped onion 5 Cups of boiling water


Brown the dry kasha in a heavy skillet or pot over a low flame, stirring it occasionally so that it doesn’t burn. Add all the other ingredients, cover tightly and simmer slowly for 25 to 30 minutes over a low flame or bake it in a casserole. Stir it 2 or 3 times to that it doesn’t burn and add more boiling water if necessary.
