2 Cups of sugar 5 Eggs (4 if large) Grated rind of 1 lemon 1 Pound of almonds, ground 3 Ounces of ground lemon peel 2 Teaspoons of nutmeg 1 Teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 Teaspoon of clove Icing 1 Cup of powdered sugar 3 Tablespoons lemon juice Colored sugar
Beat the eggs sugar and fresh grated lemon rind for 15 minutes in the electric mixer or as long as your strength lasts with a rotary beater. Add the other ingredients by hand. The dough should be stiff. Drop from a spoon onto a greased baking sheet 2 or 3 inches apart, as the dough spreads. Bake 350F. to a golden color. Cover with a little icing made with the powdered sugar and lemon juice and sprinkle the top with a little colored sugar.
