3 Cups of all-purpose flour 1 Teaspoon of baking powder 1 Teaspoon of anise seeds, crushed 1/2 Teaspoon of grated lemon peel 1/4 Teaspoon of salt 1 Cup of sugar 6 Tablespoons of vegetable oil 3 large eggs 1/2 cup of finely chopped walnuts or almonds
Preheat the oven to 350F. Combine the flour, baking powder, anise seeds, lemon peel, and salt in a bowl. Beat sugar, oil and eggs in a large mixer bowl at high speed until pale and thick. Gradually add dry ingredients, beating until blended. Stir in walnuts. Divide the dough in half. With floured hands, shape each half into a 12 x 3-inch laof. Place 3 inches apart on the ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until lightly browned. Cut each log diagonally into 1/2-inch slices. Place the cut side down on cookie sheets. Bake 7 minutes per side, until lightly toasted.
