Natal in Portugal

Natal in Portugal

“Natal” means “Christmas” in Portuguese. For Christmas, we Portuguese do about the same thing as in America except instead of eating turkey, we eat cod fish on Christmas Eve. We decorate our houses, have a Christmas tree, and go to church. We also have flowers in our house called poinsettia. There are some Christmas songs in Portuguese like “Jingle Bells” but in Portuguese it goes: E natal! E natal! Salvacao e luz. Alegria cristaos, ja nasceu Jesus! and so on……

With all my Portuguese pride,

Jessica Mendes
