Swedish Limpe Bread

2 Cups of water 1/2 Brown sugar 4 Tablespoons molasses 2 Teaspoons of caraway seeds 1 Tablespoon of shortening 1 Teaspoon of grated orange rind 1 Teaspoon of anise powder 1 Yeast cake 1/4 Cup of lukewarm water 3 Cups of white flour 1 1/2 Teaspoon salt 2 Cups of rye flour
Boil the first 7 ingredients together 3 minutes and cool to lukewarm and mix the yeast with it which has been dissolved in 1/4 cup lukewarm water. Add the white flour to the mixture to make a soft dough, cover, set in a pan of warm water and let rise for 1 1/2 hours. Add salt and rye flour to make a stiff dough, knead a little with the hands in the bowl and then let rise 2 hours. Knead a little and form into 2 loaves, put them in greased pans, let rise 1/2 hour and bake 1 hour at 350°F.
