The Longest Christmas Season in Indonesia

The Longest Christmas Season in Indonesia
netaholic

Even though the majority of Indonesians are Moslems, we still have some parts of the nation where Christians are the majority.

One of those parts is my hometown, the city of Manado (Northern part of Sulawesi). It probably has the longest Christmas celebration in Indonesia. In Manado, the season starts in October. People start to prepare the Christmas tree, malls play the season’s songs and our families from abroad come home to celebrate Christmas together.

The season usually ends up on the the 3rd Sunday of January with a carnival party around the street of Manado, they named it “Pigura Carnival” which is “A Closing New Year Celebration.”
