Brandy Grain alcohol Sugar Berries and cherries
In the old days, one has to have a wide-mouthed earthenware jug with a cover. Start with 1 pint of alcohol and 1 pint of good brandy and a quart of sugar. Fruits are added as they become ripe; cherries, especially the large California ones, red and black raspberries, blackberries, pineapple, strawberries and currants. Never add citrus fruits. A pint of sugar is added with every pint of fruit. The liquor may be replenished from time to time. Keep the jug in a cool dark place and of course the fruit keeps all winter.
