In my family (which almost all of us are there; grandma, grandpa, aunt and uncles, etc.) , as I have always known it, we actually have the big gift-opening time on Christmas Eve night, after a pleasant little dinner. Then, Christmas morning, my family and I check our stockings, which “Santa” fills while we sleep at night. Then we have the big Christmas dinner that day, which usually consists of turkey/ham, homemade rolls, cranberry sauce (my favorite), cider, mashed potatoes by the gross, dressing, gravy, yams, olives, several kinds of pie, and other little things like my grandpa’s homemade raspberry jam.
Christmas is, by far, my favorite time of the year, not necessarily because of the presents even though that does contribute, but because it is the one day of the year, where my whole family can be together and happy, with all grudges set aside. Definitely “the most wonderful time of the year,” as Johnny Mathis would sing!
