Sending eCards

An eCard or electronic greeting card is similar to a traditional Christmas card except that it is delivered digitally instead of printed on paper. Most e-cards are delivered via email to the recipient who can either view the eCard in their mail client or who can click through to a website to view the card online. Most eCards can be personalized by the sender with words (and sometimes imagery).

eCards are often used by people who may not plan as well as others, and have left things to the last minute. This is because an eCard can be delivered instantly rather than waiting for the regular postal service. There are both free eCards for Christmas and Premium services. The free eCards are most often advertising supported or operating on a ‘freemium’ model whereby they are hoping a certain percentage of their users will upgrade to a paid service. Most eCard companies hold their best Christmas eCards back for their Premium subscribers.

Corporate Christmas Cards

It is commonplace for businesses to mail or email corporate Christmas cards to their clients, partners, and sometimes suppliers. Not only does this reflect goodwill on behalf of the company sending, but it also serves as a marketing tool for the sending company.

There are several websites (and brick-and-mortar retailers) that offer applications to make it easy to create a photo Christmas card. Typically, all that you have to do is visit a website, upload a photo that you think represents your family or company, add a personalized message, and voila… your photo greeting card is ready to go. Some vendors are even handling the mail out for you (stamp included).
