Flights for Sara
Sara and her twin brother Seth were born November 17, 2004. At nine months of age, Sara was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. In Sara’s short life, she has endured two brain surgeries and three years of chemotherapy. In February 2012, at the age of seven, Sara’s brain tumors reoccurred for the second time. Because of the amount of chemo she has already been exposed to at such a young age, her only option now is to participate in a study of a new vaccine administered at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Sara’s family is very excited that Sara has been accepted into this study because the vaccine has had positive results on previous patients like Sara in the study. Her treatments will require over twenty trips to Pittsburgh for the duration of the study which begins August 23, 2012, and will take as long as two years to complete. Over these past seven years, Sara’s family has been able to absorb most of the costs associated with Sara’s illness. However, because of the travel and accommodation expenses associated with the upcoming trips to Pittsburgh, the family must now call on friends for much needed financial assistance. The friends of the McCaslin family wish that everyone keep Sara and her family in their thoughts and prayers as she continues her courageous fight, and if possible contribute to the Sara McCaslin Trust Fund to help offset these expenses.
