Help Stella Get Well
Hi! My name is Laura and I am lucky to be a friend of the lovely Stella De Mont. You may not be aware that Stella has been sick for several months, because on the outside she looks beautiful as ever and healthy, but on the inside something very different is going on. It has taken months to rule out other illnesses (it was first thought to be auto-immune) and figure out exactly what this is . After some (finally) conclusive tests last week she was diagnosed with a Chronic Viral Syndrome and a new treatment regimen is in place that starts tomorrow. A virus has been attacking her body for the last 6 months and causing her white blood cell count to be dangerously low. Some days are better than others, but in the last couple of weeks there has been a marked difference in the severity of the symptoms. She has already spent over $12,000 trying to diagnose and treat this. She has literally spent every last dime of her savings on this illness and is under doctor's orders to not work. Thanks to our lovely health care system, it is extremely difficult to get good treatment when one is out of money. It would take months for her to be considered for disability. Our girl confided in me a couple of weeks ago that she was about to spend the last of her money and only had enough to pay her rent on August 1st and then didn't know what would happen. She was scared and feeling hopeless (on top of being so physically ill that she was sometimes sleeping 14 hours at night and then having to take naps nearly all day as well). I suggested that I would love to help and that there were others that would too. She was very uncomfortable with asking anyone to do this. Then she had to have more testing and spend half of her rent on that. She couldn't pay rent on the 1st and was told that she had two weeks until she received an eviction notice. She still felt uncomfortable asking for help, but saw that she had no choice. I took advantage of this and asked if I could start an email/facebook campaign to ask for help on her behalf. I also informed her I would do it with or without her consent. :-) Her boyfriend, Felix had also been wanting to help and together we are asking for yours. We and some other people who love her have been on this journey with her for several months now. Her spirit has been so strong while her body has been so weak. We are so excited to be able to help in this way and are positive that there are so many people that love her who would be as well.So here's the scoop:We are asking anyone who is willing and able to donate whatever they can. Her first appointment is tomorrow and will cost just under $400. If she isn't able to pay rent by the 14th she will be evicted. I personally have had to remind Stella on an almost daily basis that she is too sick to work. I was there when her doctor told her to "limit your walking". After crunching some numbers combining her expected costs for treatments and living expenses for the next three months I have been able to come up with a fundraising goal. We are praying that three months will be all that she needs. That number is $22,775. If we include a contingency and some other variables that the doctor's will know more about in a couple of weeks then that number becomes more like $35,000. It's a lot of money for one awesome person who isn't able to work to come up with. :-) But it's NOT a lot of money for lots of awesome people to come up with if we each give what we can and then forward this on to everyone that we know. I am so positive that we can do this. And remember, even the smallest gift helps. We've set it up so that the donations go directly to Stella's paypal account so that she can start using the support immediately. Thanks ever so much for your love and support on behalf of our amazing friend Stella!
