Bobbie's Fight against Cancer
Bobbie Marr is my precious little doggy daughter! for those of you that havent met her yet,...she was diagnosed with Liver Cancer and a mass on her left kidney right before she turned 4 years old in May. The doctors and dog cancer specialist told me then I only had 2 weeks before i would lose her. She is my best friend! I had lost my 13 year old little Hazie just 8 mos prior to complications of diabetes causing renal failure. There was no way I could go thru losing Bobbie too, especially knowing she is so young! My only advise to buy time with Bobbie was to try Chemo with the hopes I would get max 6 mos more with her. 1 round of the chemo and she was deathly ill for 36 hours. I refuse to let her hurt or suffer. In my desperate attemp to do anything I could to help my little girl I researched and got down on my knees and did the one thing I know to do when I cant fix something or handle it myself,...After being told by the doctors and cancer specialists that surgery was not an option I decided to do everything I could to keep Bobbie happy and make sure her quality of life was wonderful for as long as time would allow. I keep Bobbie on all protien diet. baked chicken and green veggies is her meal every 3 hours and she loves it. The cancer does not cause her pain. Its the Ascites ( Fluid build up ) that makes her feel bad. Since Bobbie was diagnosed the beginning of May, I have been taking her to the vet about every 7 days to have the fluid drained off her that builts up in her little body from effects of the mass. Every doctor I have taken her too looked at me like I was crazy until they saw for themself Bobbie running and jumping with her pillow pet or squeakie in the Doctor office after they removed the fluids. The doctors all work different shift so some see her more than others, but they all are in shock. She has even gained back muscle mass she lost in the beginning of her diagnosis. She eats like a little pig and plays constantly. Everyone that sees her says if you didnt know any better you would think Bobbie was perfectly healthy. The other thing the doctors cannot explain is the fact that all her vitals, tempature and coloring do not match that of a dog with terminal cancer especially in the liver. Typically a dog at her condition of cancer would have jaundice, bad color in the gums and eyes and no energy or appetite. Bobbie is perfect all over except for the cancer. Myto get Bobbie drained and her refills have brought me to major debt. I really do not care about the money at all other than the fact that I have to be able to pay the vet bills in order for them to keep treating her fluid build up every time she needs it. Last week I had to take her 3 seperate visits because they could not get the usual amount of fluid off her. It is typically 2 liters, however last week they were only able to remove about 800 ml vs the 2000 ml they usually get and that was between 3 visits. The vet said that the mass is growing therefore they need to xray before draining her so they can be certain they get the pocket of fluid and not something else where she could have internal bleeding.
