Save a Harbor Shelter Dog!
After the 4th of July the shelter in San Pedro filled up beyond its capacity of 120 to over 183 dogs. Many were about to be put to sleep or to be blunt, they would lose their lives for the shelters need of ongoing space in a community where far too many do not care for their dogs well enough. Rescue organizations came in to help, independent rescuers came to help, Best Friends came to help. Many cages were emptied with a a minimum of deaths. But it still wasn't enough. With all the fireworks little dogs had gotten out and been picked up with owners simply not wanting them back! Strays everywhere and more and more owners who don't know how to care for their dogs were blaming the dogs and dumping them at this kill shelter! The shelter had as many as six small dogs to a cage which is hard to manage when cleaning or trying to see which one may be dealing with illness. It is stressful. crowded, some get picked on and have to defend their own food dish! They become stressed and temporarily aggressive in there and do not show well to potential adopters so they don't stand a chance of looking like the good dog they can be to a visitor looking for the perfect dog to bring home. Two or three months later and several of them are still here. But their time was up and it was action or watch them to put to sleep. Three sweet friendly adorable and well behaved little cuddle bugs. I couldn't bear it! Cody, Ommi, and Viola are staying in a nice boarding facility where they have free roaming playtime, good food and grooming. However they need medical attention as they have a bit of a cold or cough in spite of getting initial medical attention when they left the shelter. Two months of boarding, some medicine, and a foster home is needed! Can you contribute to their new start in life. These are very sweet quiet friendly little dogs!
