Aiden Arthur is Having Heart Surgery!!!
August 15, 2012 Aiden Arthur is going to have major heart surgery. We recently had our second son Aiden he was diagnosed with Down Syndrome and a birth defect in his heart. He will be getting the surgery done at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver BC Canada http://www.bcchildrens.ca/default.htm They are an amazing hospital making a real difference to BC Children I can’t even begin to explain how much of a difference they have made to our Family.Basically the 4 chambers of Aidens heart did not form so he needs major surgery to correct it before he is 5 months old. They will cut his chest break through to the heart then they reconstruct the 4 chambers. In August 13th he goes in for 10-15 days, 3 days in ICU then he is in a recovery room. Doctor’s expect him to be in for 10 days but because he has Down syndrome he could be in the hospital up to 15 days. My wife will have to live at the hospital to take care of him. Our other son is on summer holidays so I will need to take care of him. I have to work but it is going to be a real challenge without Melissa around and Cale not in school. My son always wants to be around his Mom and his little brother so we will be visiting the hospital as much as I can. As you can imagine missed work, parking, food, gas, and everything else that seems to come up when emergency’s come up. When Aiden was born he had to stay in the hospital for a week for tests. I missed so much work and spent so much money going to the hospital we spent our bill money and all of the rent money. For the past few months we have been really struggling. Now just so you know other than Aiden’s Heart Surgery things are going good the doctors are happy at the weight he has gained and say he is in the top 75% percent. His chest is a bit deep they say that is because he is struggling to breathe it is kind of disturbing to listen to him breath, when he wakes up it is like listening to a Lawn Mower start. He starts panting and his grumbling kicks in. The doctors are not happy with the breathing but they don’t believe they need to move up the Surgery. We have exhausted every source we have. The initial shock of Aiden’s problems have only just started to settle down now we have to endure this next challenge. We hope and wish this is the only major problem he has in his life. Never in a million years would I have thought we could have a Down Syndrome Baby our first son was perfect Please help us get through those 10-15 days. Your donation would be amazing and my family would be forever in your debt.
