In the spring of 2010, a seemingly strong, vibrant young man with a heart of gold received the horrific news from his doctor: I’m sorry, Patrick, you have Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS; Lou Gehrig’s disease). It’s a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement; it’s a cruel, devastating diagnosis. Our friend now needs community support to help fund the cost of his wheelchair and powered chair lift. Both are very expensive; both are vital necessities!
