Life can be life a roller coaster with ups and downs we all experience it. Recently my son Kush suffered a traumatic accident. At the end of his 7th grade year, his 13th summer he had just received his second belt in capoeira, just been in the school play he spent months rehearsing for, just won a prize at a local rap battle with his very thought provoking rhymes, just been chosen to be part of a leadership team at his junior high school. Summer was coming life was good. Then one afternoon a couple of weeks ago he was walking down a set of wooden stairs when one of them collapsed under his feet and he fell forward on his abdomen hitting into three more steps. I rushed him to the hospital where they found his spleen had been shattered. He was watched over closely in ICU until the surgical team decided to go inside to determine if the spleen needed to be removed. Having his spleen removed would have meant a compromised immune system and a lifetime of medication. During surgery they removed a liter of blood from his abdomen and found thankfully the spleen was still attached and alive though split down the middle. Kush will spend the summer simply recovering. We must make sure the spleen heals completely and does not begin to bleed again. The expenses incurred have been a financial blow to my family. Whatever you can send to help my son, my family recuperate will be greatly appreciated. In gratitude Kush’s mom, Samantha.
