The Pizzifred Family

This is my first time trying to fundraise so please be patient with me; I honestly don’t know where to start. Many of you already know our family’s situation, and we’d just like to thank everyone for supporting us thus far and for all of the prayers you have sent our way. We couldn’t have gotten this far without each and every one of you. I want to start with a brief description of what JJ has and is going through. He was born on November 7, 2007 with Situs Inversus; this is a mirror image arrangement of the organs, so that the heart and stomach are on the right and the liver and spleen on the left. In JJ’s case his heart is where it should be and everything else is flipped. He was also born with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) which is a small hole in his heart. That has not bothered him. Then JJ was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia. Biliary Atresia is a condition present from birth in which the bile ducts inside or outside the liver do not have normal openings. Bile becomes trapped in the liver, causing jaundice and cirrhosis of the liver. Without surgery, the condition may cause death. So, JJ went through his first surgery at about 2 ½ months old.Early on as a baby the doctors knew JJ would eventually need to have a liver transplant. On February 25, 2009 the miracle of a new liver arrived and the doctors began their surgery at 11:04pm and worked diligently through the night until 6:33am. God was watching out for our baby boy and the doctors that day. Over the next three years we have been living in and out of hospitals. We’ve had to leave our home in California on several occasions to go to the best hospitals and doctors. Last September JJ was hospitalized again but this time with Crypto. Crypto or Cryptosporidium is a protozoan, better known as a parasite, which can cause gastro-intestinal illness with diarrhea in humans. Treatment is symptomatic, with fluid rehydration, electrolyte correction and management of any pain. It’s highly contagious and difficult to get rid of. On top of having the Crypto they fear JJ is facing rejection of his liver transplant. He has been going through treatments to help calm the rejection down.Back in October while going back and forth between hospital stays I, his mother, have been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney disease. I am now on in the process of trying to get listed on the Kidney transplant list with KU Medical and im doing regular daily dialysis at home. This is putting a huge toll on all of us.JJ is now in the hospital once again. His father is with him this time. JJ went to Children’s Mercy on June 11th to have a CT scan and a liver biopsy done. The CT scan showed that JJ's bile ducts were collapsing and that he needed a drain put in to correct this. The staff expected JJ to be in the hospital for just the week but as they cultured the fluid in the drain, it showed that JJ has two different kinds of infections. They have started him on some antibiotics and hopefully JJ will only have to stay at Children’s Mercy for about 2 weeks. This is putting a huge financial burden on us. John Senior, his father, took his FMLA from work and is not getting paid for the time he’s gone. JJ and John took medical transportation to the hospital so John cannot even get home to go to work. We have had to move several times throughout the last 5 years due to our financial burdens. Now, I know that times are hard on everyone right now. I really hate to ask anyone for money in the state the economy is in. However, I pray that you can find it in your heart to donate to help us pay for JJ’s bills that our insurance isn’t covering and to help out our family in our dire time of need. If all you can donate is a dollar that is one dollar closer to our goal. If you can’t afford to donate then I ask that you pray for our family. Remember… God is listening. You can keep up to date on JJ’s story and read more about the road he has traveled on the following website that we’ve been keeping since the beginning:http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/ilovemylilmanjj/journal
