Save Cicero's Life - Please Donate Now
Cicero is a neutered male cat, age 3, who was struck by a car in the spring of 2012. He suffered a full luxation (displacement) of the right hip joint and his left hip joint was crushed on impact beyond repair. After he was rescued, and after consultation with our veterinarian, he was placed on pain medication (Buprinex). Our vet suggested that he be placed in foster to see if the luxated hip would heal to the point that he could engage in regular activity without pain. This was done immediately. At first he was not using a litter box, presumably because pain limited his mobility. However, he now uses a litter box as he can walk using his right hip joint and leg. Our veterinarian confirmed after a recent X-ray series that the right hip joint now "looks good." If he has surgery on the left hip, he will have an adequate quality of life.Unfortunately, despite this progress, as stated earlier, the left hip is irreparable, crushed in the accident. He has considerable difficulty using his left leg as he walks. Our veterinarian has advised us that his left leg and as much of the left hip as possible must be amputated. Without this surgery, he will suffer substantial pain and be susceptible to infections in the now useless leg.She has recommended that Cicero be put down if the surgery is not feasible for us. If he does have the surgery, he should be able to live a reasonably normal life with three legs. The surgery will cost approximately $3,000. As a no-kill rescue, All Fur Love feels that all cats deserve a chance at life. Your donation will directly save Cicero's life."He who saves one life.... It is as if he saves the world entire." - Maimonides
