Help Lay Letty to Rest
Tuesday morning, Letty Mijangos, a great friend of my sister's, of mine and my family's passed away at the young age of 24. Letty died suddenly from complications caused by lupus, which she had been diagnosed with during her junior year of high school. Letty was a student at La Sierra University in Riverside majoring in nutritional science until the fluctuations caused by her illness led her to limit her course load. She loved going to Dodger games, hanging out with her nephew Aiden, playing with her dog Slinky and taking advantage of her Disneyland annual pass with her friends---among so many other things. With the sad news of her death, I am wholeheartedly asking you for a donation to go towards her funeral arrangements. All funds collected through this effort will go directly to her family to cover costs incurred by this tragic circumstance. In many ways, Letty and her family are victims of a healthcare system that simply does not support all of our community's hardworking families. Due to Letty's past treatments for her lupus, her family has struggled to pay for the cost of uninsured care. Undoubtedly, this sudden and sad event has cast a sadness and burden that they were not prepared to face. I understand that we are living through a tough economy. And, in all honesty, I often disregard requests for donations that we all get on our Facebooks. We are all called to come together in humanity and love for great big causes, but also for the causes that are directly in front of us. This act of giving is at the most basic and microcosmic level of human interaction--it is someone who lived amongst you in your community, someone who had stresses, who loved, and who dreamt just like you. Your donation will be immensely helpful. But, above all else, keep Letty and her family in prayer. Losing someone, whether sudden or expected, is an extremely difficult ordeal and the power of prayer, grace and the support of friends and family will carry them through.
