School Funds for Winnie and Richard

School Funds for Winnie and Richard

Winnie and Richard are two Ugandan children that we tried to adopt last year. We spent 8 weeks with the kids in Uganda, working on bringing them home with us to the US. In the end we found out that some people involved with the adoption had been lying about a lot of things. Due to the situation the US Embassy has denied their Visas and they won’t be coming to the US. -------------- We have a strong bond with them and instead of just dropping of the face of the earth after being in their lives, we have decided that we want to keep trying to play a role in their lives by making sure they are sent to a good school and have food and clothes for as long as we are able to help. -------------- Many of our friends and family are also vested in the kid’s future and asked for a way they could help. So we setup this FundRazr app to give people an easy way to send money thru us to the kids for school, clothes, and other life expense. -------------- Right now this is not tax deductible; this is just a way to send a personal gift to us to help with the kids expenses. All money received will be held in an interest savings account until its needed to help with our expenses for W and R. -------------- We plan to keep track of cost on a yearly bases and will try to keep everyone updated on what is going on with the kids. -------------- What’s happening now: The kids interviewed and were accepted to what is known for being a great Ugandan school. The kids will be living there fulltime with plans to stay with a foster family during Ugandan holidays. Here is the school hillsideprimaryschool-naalya.com -------------- Our first fundraiser push on a different website had to be stopped due to some confusion with PayPal. We had been given 790 dollars from a lot of different people, you know who you are and we thank you very much. So we are starting fresh and hopefully this will be easier to share with anyone you think is interested. We also want to let you know your gifts have already been put to good use. -------------- We have estimated the total cost for a year of boarding school, admission fees, school uniforms, and other misc. clothes and costs will end up at about 3360 dollars a year. (We didn’t include uniforms and what not in the first fundraiser of 2800 dollars, so this total a little higher for the year) -------------- We had already paid for their admission costs, first term of school, and new clothes before we started tracking everything. Was about 800 dollars total. -------------- We also just used some the funds everyone donated to get the kids new school uniforms and bedding purchased. This ended up being about 760 dollars with money transfer fees to Uganda. -------------- Winnie and Richard are now set and ready for school and to move to their new dorms in a few days. We hope to talk with them before they head to school and we hear they are very excited to get back to class. And I am sure they are looking forward to swim lessons and getting to know some new friends. -------------- So that leaves us at about 1800 left for this year, so that’s where I will start our goal. Anything over the goal will go into next year’s expenses or any emergencies like illness or injury. -------------- We are in this for the long haul and will be covering these expenses one way or another for as long as it’s needed. We just want to give an easy way for anyone inclined to do so to chip in for the kids when they can. -------------- Dave and Laur
