Send Holly to Ecuador! Trip of a lifetime!
Holly started high school in 2011 in Bowie, MD. She moved to her fathers the same year from a very rural town almost 2 hours away. Prior to high school she wasn't the best in school and needed a tremendous amount of additional help. When she started school in Bowie she didn't know anyone! This urban town is bigger than most and very diverse. It is the exact opposite of where she came from. Her father and I were very worried for her "fitting in". We are beyond excited to share with you that she has exceeded all our expectations! She has made many new friends from all walks of life. As a freshman; with great difficulty,( and a lot of blood, sweat and tears) for the first time, she finally made and maintained honor roll all year. She even had honors courses! She went to tutoring in Math almost every morning before school and sometimes studied for 5-6 hours after school just to understand the material. Somewhere along the way, she started to enjoy her success and work even harder. Somewhere along the way, she fell in love with Spanish. We met her Spanish teacher the summer prior to high school and told her Holly's story. She told us not to worry and that she would always watch out for her. We don't know if Senora White will ever know just how profound of an impact she made on our daughter, but we will be forever grateful. Holly picked up the language surprisingly easy. I say surprising, because nothing in school has been easy for her. She loves to read about the different cultures and countries. This her sophomore year has only been better. Not only is she continuing to excel in ALL her academics, but Spanish in particular! She is currently tutoring an autistic classmate. For her efforts she will receive service hours, which are a graduation requirement. Holly was chosen to attend a special trip to Ecuador with her teacher and several other students. With our blessing, we would love for her to attend. It will be the first time she rides on a plane, vacations without her parents and out of the country! For going on the trip, she could earn college credit! She has a drive that was nonexistent a few years ago. She has desires to attend college, where before she didn’t think she would graduate high school. She strives for success in her academics, where before she accepted failures as a part of who she was. With your support, this opportunity would continue to grow her potential. You would be investing in a child’s future that wants and one day will make a significant difference in the world. She will gain invaluable leadership skills, greater global awareness and an international perspective that only comes from traveling abroad. Holly is an amazing human being, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece and friend. We are so proud of her achievements and drive. We hope with your help to make this dream a reality.
