Cancer, Disability, & Unemployment (please help).
Fundraiser for the Andersen Family: Penny Andersen was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer (stage 1) in February of 2012, had a 4 lb tumor removed, and is now undergoing BCG Treatment and starts chemo next month. This account has been created to raise funds for the Andersens. All donations given through this fundraiser will be going to The Andersen Family to use at their discretion as needs arise over the next couple of months to help Penny continue her BCG and Chemo treatment. Thank you for your support! ------------------------------------------------Our family has had a pretty rough year medically and financially (and we can really use as much help as possible). We've gone through my wife (Penny) becoming ill due to Bladder cancer and the costs associated with the treatment / hospitalization. We now have over $5,000.00 in medical debt as a result. We also have unresolved medical costs associated with our effort to help our developmentally disabled son (Travis) last year establish in writing his disabilities (costs in excess of $1,000.00). We are a proud family who tries to work out our problems ourselves and to not be a burden to others. And now, I (as the family's provider) am unemployed as of September 30th... and with no call backs from prospective employers, we must do what we can to make sure Penny is medically taken care of.We usually don't ask for help, but in this case... we can't financially do this alone (so we are giving it to God and asking the Public for their help). My wife was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer last February (during a routine medical procedure). She had a 4 lb. "low grade" tumor removed from her bladder. She then went into septic shock (with her organs shutting down), was on life support for 3 days, and spent a total of 8 days in the hospital. She was recovering from that when a followup procedure in August showed a recurrence of the cancer (and another smaller tumor was removed). She is presently undergoing "BCG" treatment (6 weekly treatments) that started on 9/27 and will then go on to 6 weeks of chemo in November.Penny is presently disabled (she was a shooting victim amongst over 13 victims of the JB Pub shooting in Elgin, IL in 2001). She has permanent limitations to her left arm (with neurological damage cause by the bullet), in addition to a bad back due to a herniated disc plus 2 bad knees. In addition to this, she now has recurring Stage 1 Bladder Cancer (for which she is receiving ongoing treatment).Unfortunately, we have the possibility of losing our medical insurance soon... as my last day employed was 9/30. Without the ability to afford "Cobra", we will lose the insurance that allows for my wife (Penny) to keep getting treatment for her cancer. So we have no choice but to hold off paying our mortgage and other primary bills (while we wait for the unemployment claim to go through its process this month) in order to pay for Penny's "Cobra" premium. What we need, is at least $2,000.00 in the next month (to cover about 2 months of cobra premiums and the additional goal is to help pay down our outstanding medical costs already incurred). We are doing everything we can by applying for help via the different governmental programs out there. We have applied for the "Illinois' Hardest Hit" benefits (to help with our mortgage), but that decision takes 60 days to process (and there is no guarantee of help when applying for that type of help). I have also applied for Veteran's Healthcare (but my previous income has made me ineligible until the end of the year, so I will have to "make do"). Our son has done the difficult by trying to help us by buying his own private medical insurance (he works at Walmart part time) to help keep the Cobra premium down.No matter what happens regarding this fund raising effort, we appreciate everyone who has helped (our God, friends, family, church, and strangers).
