Seraphine’s College Education Fund
This past summer, I had the wonderful opportunity of traveling to Rwanda. It was there that I met Seraphine, a young Tutsi woman working at the Discover Rwanda Youth Hostel. Her positive energy and genuine character warmed my spirit. As we talked, Seraphine confessed she would soon be dropping out of school. I learned that Seraphine was made to watch as her mother, father, brothers, and sisters were killed in front of her as a result of the Rwandan genocide. Orphaned, Seraphine fled to a refugee camp in Burundi where life was brutal and bleak. Seraphine faced widespread disease, a lack of food, and unbearable depression. She was alone to face a tough and bitter survival. Thanks to government assistance programs, Seraphine found refuge in the village of Kimironko. Realizing an education was the only means to improving her life, Seraphine enrolled as a Business and Economics student at the Kigali Independent University. However, after finishing her first year, Seraphine now lacks the funds to continue her education. Seraphine has provided proof of enrollment along with her first year transcripts. The money I raise will go directly into her student account, and aid in transportation costs. Please help me raise the $3,500 it will take to fund Seraphine’s education for the next three years. Together, we can provide this courageous young woman the chance at success she deserves.
