Benefit for Nathan Norman <3
Nathan is a 5 year old little boy who has been suffering with cancer since he was 1. He was born December 28, 2006. He began to have seizures just before his 1st birthday. He had many CT scans and EEG's, they were all normal. The doctors believed it was a type of vertigo disorder. In October 2008 his seizures began to happen more frequently. On January 14,2009 he was sent for an MRI, it was supposed to be very routine and didn't expect to find anything. However just a few hours after the MRI the family received a call that Nathan had a tumor on his cerebellum that went over to the peduncle. They were sent to Duke on January 16, 2009. January 20, 2009 Nathan went in for surgery. The doctor was able to remove some but left about 45%. The pathology shows the cancer as Grade 2. Brain Cancer. The tumor started to grow as of an MRI on March 5, 2009. Nathan had an InfusaPort placed in his chest on the 11th and chemo started on the 12th. The chemo is to try and keep the cancer at a stable for as long as possible. On October 21, 2011 the MRI revealed a 3mm growth on his brain as well as a tumor inside his spinal cord. He had surgery to remove most of the spinal tumor on October 31, 2011. He had to stop taking medications in the spring of 2012 because his quality of life decreased. They have now started chemo again on September 12, 2012 and are ready to try a new drug called Revlimid. However this is just to try and stabilize and buy some time. Remember "Expect a Miracle Nathan!"
