AJ's Medical Fund
AJ is a 10 year old boy, who has been battling with Medulloblastoma, a form of Brain Cancer, for 5 years. In July 2010, we learned that AJ's Cancer came with a bit of a twist. This Brain Cancer was no longer in his brain and spine, but in his bones, soft tissues and lymph nodes. This situation is so rare, there are about 15 - 20 reported cases, worldwide, in the past 40 years. Longest living, from diagnosis date, was 18 months. We were sent home, by St. Jude, because they believed that AJ would pass no longer than October 2010. Where the largest tumor was, AJ had lost the ability to walk. Doctors from St. Jude and Vanderbilt Children's Hosptial all agreed, AJ would never walk again. Halloween 2010, AJ was able to walk short distances. Thanksgiving 2010, AJ was running. September 2012, AJ has made it to the 26 months past diagnosis mark. In June 2012, AJ suffered from Complete Renal Failure, and Septic Shock, which was later complicated by a condition called PRES. PRES was caused by elevated blood pressures, as a side effect of the kidney function coming back. This caused AJ's brain to swell, and he was completely blind for a period of time. In September 2012, AJ is again hospitalized. This time, his port caught an infection, because of his Chemotherapy. Within hours of checking in at the hospital, AJ started to go into Septic Shock, again. During this stay, AJ had to undergo surgery to remove the infected port, and have a very temporary central line placed. When his body is strong enough, AJ will have a new port placed, and the temporary line removed. He will also undergo a stent replacement, for his kidney. AJ will be requiring ongoing medical support, as he battles Terminal Cancer. He is a fighter, and continues to battle hard. Please consider being a part of his battle.
