Help Karen Lloyd in Her Treatment Against Lyme

Help Karen Lloyd in Her Treatment Against Lyme

My Lyme story began at age 19 in July 2002. While working at a horse stable, I suddenly became severely ill. Testing confirmed Lyme Disease but I was given inadequate treatment of only a couple weeks and never fully recovered. Over the years, my symptoms progressively worsened yet it took years to find a Lyme literate doctor and I was not re-diagnosed until October 2010. At that time it was discovered that in addition to chronic Lyme disease I also had contracted two other tick-borne diseases: Babesia (malaria-like) and Bartonella. Since it took over 8 years for the diagnosis, the diseases spread and became chronic. I went from being an extremely active person to becoming exhausted after making a simple meal or walking down stairs. While in college at UVM I had repeatedly been on the Dean’s List, but by the summer of 2010 I became frightened as I increasingly had difficulty remembering how to complete projects at my administrative job at a local non-profit. Along with these sudden Alzheimer-like “blanks” I also frequently had trouble comprehending even simple things like recipes and movies. In November of 2010, just a few weeks after starting aggressive antibiotic treatment, my poor health forced me to take short-term disability and a leave of absence from my job at VSAC because of a multitude of symptoms. In May 2011, sadly I had to resign from this job I loved. I applied for longterm disability and Social Security in 2011, but it still has not been granted. Since insurance doesn’t cover many of my medical expenses and I have no income at this time, my bills are adding up at an alarming rate. I currently have about $8,000 of debt and rising. My primary Lyme physician is 100% out of pocket, costing roughly $400 per visit. The entire decade of my 20's has been a struggle against these debilitating tick diseases but now as I approach my 30th birthday in October 2012 I have HOPE because of the support of my doctors and loved ones.It is very difficult to reach out and ask for help. I only ask because I can no longer do this alone. Truly, thank you so much for your generosity and support. Any donation amount, no matter how small it may seem to you, will be a great help to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me to continue the medical treatment I desperately need.Love,Karen
