Fundraiser for new ARF of MS shelter
Animal Rescue Fund of MS (ARF) needs YOUR help. We are being forced to move from our current location due to an unfavorable political climate for animal rescue in Rankin County. When we purchased our property in September of 2008 to operate our no-kill rescue/sanctuary/adoption center, we did so with full approval of the Rankin County Board of Supervisors and the building permit department of the county. We were open and honest about our organizations goals and mission and on the intended use of the property. The county approved our use. When we asked the authorities if the neighboring properties might possibly object to an animal sanctuary being located there, the County informed us that it was not an issue because those people bought property zoned intensive agricultural, which is what our use is considered. The Rankin County Board of Supervisors have had a change of heart due to complaints and misinformation provided to them from some of our neighbors. These neighbors have gone as far as to threaten bodily harm to our director, our employees and the very lives of our rescued animals. Rankin County has acquiesced to the complaints of the neighbors and since they could not remove our permit, they passed an ordinance reqireing changes in our use. The ordinance among other things requires us to construct a building that is from both time and cost constraints ipossible to accomplish. It requires the building that houses our rescues to be completed within 5 months from the notice. Additionally, the requirements of the construction are extremely expensive. Contractors have estimated the construction costs for the required building to be between $4,000,000.00 and $5,000,000.00 and have it stated it would take at least 24 to 36 months to build. If we don't build the building within that 5 month period imposed by Rankin County, the penalties include confiscating and euthanizing our animals, and putting our director in jail for up to 2 years. All of these penalties are not an option in our minds and therefore we must leave the Rankin County. We have found a wonderful location to purchase for the organization, have received verification of the use from the City of Jackson and now are in the process of raising the funds to purchase the property. This is where you can come in. We are asking that you help us continue this very important work that we do so our current rescues will have the chance for adoption and that more animals can be helped into rescue, homes and families. We ask you to please commit to a donation of whatever you can afford. We have a very short window of time to raise these funds and do hope that you can help us in this campaign. We do appreciate your help and support in this process. We need the support of the many to help these few who have no voice and no power. If you can help, we ask that you mail your contribution before July 15, 2012 so that we will be able to move forward with the offer to purchase. Alternately, you can use this app to donate through Paypal. However conating through this app charges 4.9% Paypal fees plus $.30 per donation. All donations are tax deductible as we are a 501c3 organization.
