Hope for Alice
On August 30th, 2012, my family received the devastating news that my precious Aunt Alice was diagnosed with a tumor in her brain. Three days later, it was confirmed that it was a malignant tumor. She was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, which is the most common and most aggressive malignant brain tumor in humans. She lives in Guatemala and the healthcare system there is nowhere near as resourceful as it is in the Unites States. Her doctor said she has 3-6 months left if no surgery is done. If surgery and further treatment is done, she has 1 year. The surgery costs Q.150,000, which is equivalent to $20,000 US dollars. There is no way our family can afford these kinds of costs. The worst part is my family has decided not to inform her of her terminal cancer, at least not yet.I never thought I would find myself in such a devastating situation involving my family, but here I am trying to do anything and everything in my power to help my aunt beat this vicious disease. My Aunt Alice will be 54 on October 2nd. She is one of the most amazing people I have ever met and am so proud to call her my family. She never had her own kids but she treats all her nephews and nieces as if they were her own. My aunt is the main caretaker for my grandma who has been living with severe Alzheimer’s for almost 13 years now. She is the kind of person that will put down everything just to help you out. Despite her constant financial hardships, daily stresses at work, difficulties with assistant caretakers for my grandma, and the health issues she's had over the years, she ALWAYS seems to be positive and be there when she is needed. She is so selfless, kind, beautiful and amazing. How this can happen to someone as special as her I just don't understand. With the help of my amazing friend, I’ve decided to make a website that accepts donations for my Aunt's journey and assist in paying for the medical bills. I've been doing research day and night to figure out how we can beat this. There are tons of articles and books that have provided me with information about alternative treatments, along with chemo and radiation. We would be using the money that is kindly donated for:- hospital bills- medication- Vitamins- Minerals-Oils- Other treatments that have been shown to decrease the chances of the cancer returningMy aunt is actually a survivor of uterine cancer so I know she can beat this!I know times are tough right now. If you are able to help with just a little bit, I will be forever grateful! But like I said, I know that everyone has their own financial hardships. If at this time you can't donate, you can still help!!! Please say a prayer for my aunt and pray that she will beat this. Thank you all very much for your time and God bless you all <3Update 10/2/12: My aunt has been in and out of surgery and has had an amazing recovery! Everyone's prayers helped out during those difficult weeks. As of this past Sunday, my aunt has decided not to do chemo or radiation. Now is the time when your prayers are needed the most, so please continue to pray for her and our family. We have raised a little over $2,000 (some people have donated directly) and I can't thank each and everyone of you enough! Since my Aunt has declined the traditional treatment, we have decided to go with alternative treatments and that alone wil cost a little over $5,000. Please share this link with your family and friends so that we may reach our goal.Thank you to everyone who has kindly donated. Without your help, we wouldn't be able to provide my aunt with the hope we have today <3**If you do not have a pay pal account and would like to donate money, we will graciously accept donations mailed to:2555 North Brighton StreetBurbank, Ca 91504Thank you!
