Help Me Move to New Mexico to Continue Education
My name is Angel Alvarez I am 23-years-old, self-identified undocu-queer, and currently live in Phoenix, AZ. I have been in the United States since I was one year old. I have been involved in the community for many years, and I am currently a part of Puente Human Rights Movement, 3rdSpace (a collective of queer migrants and people of color working on social justice issues in Phoenix), and the Association for Joterias Arts, Activism, and Scholarship. In 2010, I moved to New Mexico to go to college and get away from SB1070 and Arizona’s climate of hate; I was then detained there and put in ICE custody. I am currently fighting deportation, after recently being released from immigrant detention. After this experience I realized that Arizona had spread throughout the country. I returned to Phoenix to organize and defend my family and community. I have experienced family separation and I don’t want anyone else to ever go through that. I come from a family of 8 and I will be the first one in my family to go to the university. I was recently informed that I had the oportunity to attend the University of New Mexico (UNM). I have been traveling in the Undocubus - No Papers No Fear Ride for Justice for the past 5 weeks. I am asking for your help to be able to move back to New Mexico to attend school. Because I was recently released from detention, finding work and thus financial stability has been extremely difficult. I am trying to raise money to move both myself and my family to New Mexico so we are not separated. If just 100 people donate 20 dollars, I will meet my goal. This money would cover moving costs and school costs, such as books or fees I would have to pay. Please help me; every donation will be greatly apreciated. Thank you for your time and attention. Blessings.
